Hunters In Niger State Kill Life Threatening Hippopotamus

Residents of Dere Apataku Kuchi Kakanda and Ezhi communities in Niger State can now heave a sigh of relief as a hippopotamus said to have been threatening the life and safety of the communities has been killed by hunters.

The wild animal whose initial habitat was the River Niger was reportedly injured somewhere and was relocated to the said communities about 10 months ago.

The injured animal was said to have been threatening the lives of not just the people travelling on the

River Niger but fishermen.

The hippopotamus had as well destroyed rice farms of individuals in the area which necessitated the unity of the brave hunters to go after the animal which was eventually killed last Wednesday at Dere the confluence of the River Niger and the River Gurara.

It might interest you to know that the meat of the hippopotamus is not being sold in line with the culture and tradition of the people of the state rather the meat is being shared among various communities around where it was killed to feed families indicating that the biggest animal has been killed.
