Fubara, Amaewhule Lawmakers Meet In Abuja

In what appears like a peace reconciliation move the suspended governor of Rivers State Siminalayi Fubara has met with the suspended Speaker of the State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule among other aggrieved lawmakers and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) Nyesom Wike to end the lingering political crisis in the state.

In a closed-door meeting held Thursday June 26th 2025 in Abuja both Fubara and Amaewhule were captured on camera holding hands and exchanging pleasantries.

Viral Video: Lagos Police Quiz Pst. Paul Adefarasin Over Allegation Of Possession Of Firearm

 

The police in Lagos have commenced the interrogation of the Senior Pastor and Founder  House on the Rock Church Lekki Paul Adefarasin following a viral video alleging the clergyman was in possession of a gun-like object.

Pastor Adefarasin was said to have on Tuesday June 17, 2025 turned himself in at the Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja where he was being questioned.

Lagos Govt. Halts Planning Approvals For Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road


The Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has announced the immediate suspension of planning approvals along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development Olumide Oluyinka on Monday June 16th 2025.

NDLEA Arrests Drug Trafficking Suspects

A businessman 44 years old Ezemokwe Chukwuebuka who was on his way to Iran has been arrested by the anti-narcotics agency; the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA at the Port Harcourt airport for allegedly ingesting fifty three wraps of cocaine and for concealing  tramadol worth N1.1billion in winter jackets.

The Director of Media and Advocacy NDLEA Femi Babafemi who confirmed this in a statement issued on Sunday noted that Ezemokwe was intercepted by operatives of the agency.

Non-compliance With Fiscal Responsibility Act... House Commttes' Invite CBN Governor, Finance Minister

The Minister of Finance Wale Edun and the Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso have been invited by the Joint House of Representatives Committees on Public Account and Public Assets to appear before it on Monday June 16th 2025 over allegations of non-compliance with the provisions of Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007.

In a letter signed by both committee Chairmen Bamidele Salami and Ademorin Kuye they asked the Finance Minister and CBN Governor to provide details on remittance of operating surplus to the Federation Account by the apex bank in line with the provisions of relevant laws and regulations.

The letter noted that the Fiscal Responsibility Commission and the Auditor General of the Federation have submitted reports alleging that several Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government including the Central Bank of Nigeria have failed to remit and at other times under-remitted their operating surpluses as required by extant financial laws and regulations in the last six years.

In an effort to ensure customers have access  to seamless payments abroad, online and on Automated Teller Machines outside the shores of Nigeria Tier-one Lender Fidelity Bank Plc, has announced the resumption of international transactions on its Naira Debit Cards.

Divisional Head, eBanking Fidelity Bank Plc Ifeoma Onibuje said Fidelity Naira Cards have been enabled for its global use which makes it easy for Fidelity Bank customers to utilize their Naira Debit cards outside the country to shop, spend and withdraw internationally hassle free.
Onibuje explained that Fidelity Bank customers can now spend up to $1,000 quarterly for international POS and online transactions; as well withdraw up to $500 quarterly on international ATMs.

First batch of 413 Kebbi Pilgrims Return To Nigeria From Saudi Arabia.

RETURN FROM HAJJ

The first batch of 413 pilgrims from Kebbi State who performed the 2025 Hajj in Saudi Arabia, have returned to their home country. 

The Airbus conveying the pilgrims A380-900 by Flynas Airline of Saudi Arabia landed at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi on Friday June 13, 2025.

On board was the state governor Nasir Idris his two wives Zainab Nasare and Nafisa who came along with other pilgrims from Shanga, KoKo/Besse and Suru Local Government Areas.

About 4,000 pilgrims from the Kebbi State performed the 2025 Hajj in the Holy Land.

SSS Testifies In Court Against Nnamdi Kanu Over Smuggled Radio Transmitter 

The fourth prosecution witness in the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra(IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu has told the Federal High Court Abuja that the IPOB leader allegedly smuggled a radio transmitter into the country; an equipment he concealed in household items to avoid being detected.

The witness an official of the State Security Service(SSS)with the pseudo name DDD while being led in evidence by the Prosecution Counsel Adegboyega Awomolo told the court that the radio transmitter which was brought into the country without declaration to the appropriate authority; the Nigeria Customs Service was hidden at the residence of one Benjamin Madubougu in Ihiala Anambra State.

When court proceeding began the prosecution witness who was stationed in the southeast region from 2019-2022 told the court that he has served with the DSS for 25 years.

NCC Engages Stakeholders To Address Bottlenecks 

In an effort to address the challenges confronting rural network connectivity in Nigeria; the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has partnered the Association for Progressive Communications among other institutional agencies to put a lasting solution to the issues.

The telecoms industry regulator NCC made this known at a 2-day workshop held June 3rd to the 4th 2025 in Abuja to explore the policy framework that would smoothen community networks towards bridging the digital divide and accelerating socio-economic development in Nigeria’s underserved and unserved communities.

The workshop brought together industry regulators, community leaders, technical experts and potential foreign investors among others to examine policy and regulatory barriers, explore innovative funding mechanisms,as well ensure sustainable renewable solutions.

The Executive Vice Chairman NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida who was ably represented by the Executive Commissioner, Technical Services at the commission Abraham Oshadami said the workshop became necessary to bridge the digital divide; as well foster inclusive social economic development in Nigeria.

The 25th edition of the annual Black Entertainment Television Awards B.E.T hosted by American stand-up comedian and actor Kevin Hart; went down live at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles California United States on Monday June 9th 2025; which saw Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr to pick up the Best International Act award.

 The BET awards is aimed at recognising and celebrating the achievements of African American entertainers and other individuals who have excelled in their chosen fields such as music film sports and philanthropy.

Late Afrobeat Legend Fela Kuti Makes List Of Honourees 

The Recording Academy led by its Chief Executive Officer Harvey Mason Jr. has inducted the late Nigerian afrobeat legend and social crusader Fela Anikulapo-Kuti into its 2025 Grammy Hall of Fame for his classical album "Zombie".

Harvey Mason Jr. and the President/CEO of the Grammy Museum Michael Sticka made this known on the official "X" handle of the academy.

The Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and Afrika 70 album "Zombie" which was released in Nigeria in 1976 by Coconut Records addresses societal ills.

Though Fela the "Abami Eda" as he is fondly called was posthumously nominated for the Grammy Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021 he did not make the final list of inductees.
